F&N gets possession of RM26m KKIP lot

Kota Kinabalu: Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd (F&NHB) through its fully owned subsidiary, F&N Beverages Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (F&NBM), has purchased 21.33 acres, valued at RM26 million at Industrial Zone 8 (IZ8), Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP), to establish a new beverages plant to cater for growing demand in Sabah and Sarawak. The expansion in East Malaysia is in line with the company's ongoing commitment to serve the local market.

The initial investment is expected to be implemented in phases within six years with a projected investment value of approximately RM85 million.

F&NHB Chief Executive Officer Lim Yew Hoe was present at the handover.

KKIPSB's Chief Executive Officer, Ir. Melvin Disimond said:

"We have obtained a Halmas Halal Park Certification for IZ8 earmarked as food zone.

We have 20 lots on 100 acres of which to date, 62 acres or 14 lots have been taken up.

Works have been completed on 55 acres out of the 100 acres." Halmas Halal Park project is also in line with KKIPSB's initiatives to present Sabah as an attractive investment destination for Halal related opportunities and can serve as a nexus for Halal related companies to grow and thrive in this region.

Operating within a designated Halal Park give excellent opportunities to the investor to be eligible for special incentives.

While at the same time taking advantage of Malaysia's strength for halal certification amid increasing global demand for Halal certified products and services.

Apart from F&BHB, Sabah International Dairies and TLS Marketing, to name a few, have also decided to expand their operations to IZ8, Melvin added.

KKIP's subsidiary, K.K.I.P. Property Sdn Bhd has also teamed up with Softwise Sdn Bhd to develop an integrated Supply Chain Shared Services and Outsourcing Centre (SSO) on a 5 acre lot. SSO is targeted at small & medium enterprises (SMEs) in food related industries with the aim to reduce cost of production and maximise efficiency."

"KKIPSB is moving firmly towards achieving its goals to generate economic growth in Sabah, thereby contributing to the State's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The spillover effect of this project will be retail, food and beverages outlet and other business activities which will in turn create more jobs for local communities."

Also present at the handing over ceremony were Datuk Joseph Yuntavid, Sabah Deputy State Secretary (Development) cum Director of KKIPSB; Lee Meng Tat, Chief Executive Officer of Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Fraser & Neave Limited; and senior officials from both KKIPSB and F&NHB.
