Mayor's Karate Challenge Trophy next month

Kota Kinabalu: The 2nd Mayor's Karate Challenge Trophy jointly organised by Kanazawa Ryu Shotokan Karate Association Of Sabah (KSKA) and City Hall (DBKK) will be held at the newly renovated Dewan SMK Lok Yuk, Likas on September 10-11.KSKA President Datuk Hanshi Alex Sham said that the main objective of the championships is to promote karate in Kota Kinabalu city and throughout Sabah.

"This jointly organised championships by DBKK and KSKA will act as a base for identifying outstanding and talented karatekas for representing Kota Kinabalu City in the coming Saga 2017," he said.

Sham also foresees that the sport has a bright future with the inclusion of karate as an Olympic sport in the Tokyo Olympic Games in four years time.

Sham with his supreme council members paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu Datuk Yeoh Boon Hai to brief him on the tournament.

The Mayor who was invited as the guest of honour at the closing ceremony was pleased with the concept of the championships not only for all karatekas to have an opportunity to meet together but also as an opportunity to enhance friendships and exchange of ideas to promote karate.
