SLA to hold Legal Awareness Weekend Oct 8-9

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Law Association will be organising a Legal Awareness Weekend ("LAW") – a non-profit event on Oct 8-9 aimed at creating more legal awareness and improving access to legal justice. The event will be held at the Suria Sabah Shopping Mall here, said Sabah Law Association (SLA) president Brenndon Keith Soh during a courtesy call on Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai on Tuesday.Soh said the court, State Attorney General and senior members of SLA will be giving free legal lectures for the benefit of the public. ADVERTISEMENT "Amongst others, there will be talks on sales and purchase agreements in Sabah, native customary rights, employment laws, syariah laws and court procedures."Furthermore, a panel of lawyers will be available throughout the weekend for free legal consultations. City Hall has graciously accepted the invitation and shall participate by opening a booth to engage the public,' he said.SLA also reiterated its commitment to the mayor's profound pledge to turn Kota Kinabalu into a "Clean, Green and Liveable" environment. ADVERTISEMENT To that end, the SLA and its members have actively participated in events including the recent gotong-royong in Sembulan jointly organised by the courts and City Hall. Further, the SLA had pledged to assist City Hall in the proposed amendments to the municipal anti-littering by-laws to enable City Hall to carry out its enforcement more effectively.

Soh said SLA also will be organising the SLA Legal Run 2016 on Nov 6 in collaboration with the Rojak Runners."The route from the Foochow hall to Country Heights via Bukit Padang offers a new and exciting journey and has been approved the police. "The main objective of the SLA Legal Run is for SLA to raise some funds for select charitable organisations and to raise the profile of SLA in public engagements," he said.All profits earned from the SLA Legal Run will be donated to Bukit Harapan and Sabah Cheshire Home and other selected charitable bodies or organisations.
