KTYS signs pact with UMP over two degree programmes

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Foundation Technical College (KTYS) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) at Putrajaya, recently.The MoA aimed to facilitate the partnership for two franchised degree programmes from UMP which will be implemented by KTYS – Bachelor of Industrial Management (Honours) and Bachelor of Project Management (Honours).

KTYS Chief Executive Officer Datin Dr Tarsiah Taman represented the college at the signing ceremony, while UMP Vice Chancellor Prof Dato' Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim signed the MoA on behalf of the university.

Tarsiah said the MoA is a positive development for KTYS in its effort not only to provide more pathways for Sabahan students pursuing higher education but also to enable it to fulfil the criteria towards achieving the 'University College' status.

Towards this end, she conveyed her gratitude to UMP for giving the opportunity to conduct and run the two degree programmes on a full-time basis at KTYS.

"KTYS will continue to pursue smart partnerships such as this which is in line with our vision to become a regional hub for education excellence.

"The college will constantly endeavour to expand, improve and upgrade its educational system and campus environment to meet the challenges of providing quality education and also skills competency training programmes.

"These efforts will be in tandem with the state and nation's human capital development and to meet the demand of industries for more trained and skilled manpower," she said.

To date, KTYS has provided opportunities for students to acquire higher academic qualifications offered in partnership with locally acclaimed universities such as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Kolej Universiti Islam Melaka (KUIM) as well as Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

UMP which was set up by the Federal Government in 2002, offers a wide range of skills-based and practical-based tertiary education in engineering and technology to produce competent engineers.

Similar to KTYS, the university is also committed to the development of human capital and technology to fulfil the needs of industries as well as to contribute to the country's overall development.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by KTYS Corporate Services Senior Manager Waky Taim and UMP's Industrial Management Faculty Dean Dr Mohd Ridzuan Darun.

Also present were KKYS Sdn Bhd Board Chairman Datuk Kamal D.E. Quadra, KKYS Sdn Bhd board member Datuk Light Hj. Nanis and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dato' Dr Rosli Mohd Yunus.
