Million dollar feet: Search for Malaysia's next football stars

PETALING JAYA: Standing at 150 centimetres tall, Muhammad Firdous Haykeel Mohamad Amin (Firdous Haykeel), 12, is already dreaming of playing for Spanish giants, Real Madrid.Having started to play football four years ago, he chose Real Madrid due to the interest and 'craze' on his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal.To make his dreams come true, the SK Seafield, Subang Jaya student chose the Million Dollar Feet (MDF) programme, a nationwide search for young football talents, to try to find his way to Europe by the end of this year.

However, he has to rub shoulders with about 10,000 young football enthusiasts, aged 11-14 years from all over the nation, where only the two best players will be selected for an all-expenses paid trip to the United Kingdom (UK)."I am very excited and happy to be part of this MDF. I want to be a star player like Ronaldo in future," the City Youth Academy trainee said when met at the MDF press conference at Brickfields Asia College (BAC) here, Thursday.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

According to the founder and director of MDF, Peter de Krester, the two young footballers will be chosen based on their calibre and talent, after drills and try outs conducted by former England and Liverpool legend, Steve McMahon in Penang (Sept 24-25), Kuantan (Oct 1-2), Kuching (Oct 8-9), Johor Bahru (Oct 14-15) and Kuala Lumpur (Oct 21-22).The final selections will be held at Dataran Merdeka on Oct 23 to select two players for the 10-day ultimate experience in UK, with the opportunity to be witnessed by scouts from top European football clubs. – Bernama
