Two killed in Ranau crash

Ranau: Two people were killed and another slightly injured in a collision involving a Perodua Viva and a Nissan Navara along Jalan Ranau-Telupid, here, Friday. The deceased has been identified as the Perodua Viva driver, Justin Torong, 54, who was killed on the spot, and his passenger, Buari Roslan, 42, who succumbed to her injuries while on the way to hospital.

District Police Chief DSP Mohd Farhan Abdullah said initial investigations showed the Nissan driven by a 55-year-old man had rammed the Viva.

He said the Viva was heading towards Telupid from the Ranau direction, while the Nissan came from the opposite direction when the 12.5pm mishap took place at Km 15 in the Nalapak area near a Gaharu tree farm.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Chief Jimmy Lagung said their team rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at about 12.15pm.

"We found a man trapped in the driver's seat of the Viva and took him out.

However, he was pronounced dead by ambulance paramedics who arrived moments later.
