LUMUT: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) is introducing its digital camouflage operations uniform to enhance its image to be on par with that of the navies of developed countries.RMN chief, Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin said the new uniform would replace their current three operations uniforms in stages."Our existing uniforms are the long-sleeved blue shirt, short-sleeved blue shirt, and action working dress (AWD).

"Those three attire will be replaced by just one outfit that can be used in many work situations," he said at the pre-launching of the new RMN operations uniform, here, Friday. He said the new uniform would save the government RM1.4 million in costs, adding that it was also in line with RMN's '15 to 5' Transformation Programme, which had resulted in cost savings through greater operational efficiency.According to Ahmad Kamarulzaman, the new uniform was designed with safety and comfort elements to ensure it would be suitable for operations and while on board a ship.He said the new uniform would also save some space in the lockers while on board.

Another special feature of the uniform is that the fabric used would not stick to the skin of the wearer when in contact with fire."With its gray digital pattern, which is the same colour of the ship, the new uniform provides a good camouflage," he said.
