Kota Kinabalu: A coalition of youths staged a peaceful assembly to protest against the Government's alleged failure to address the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue. About 25 youths donning shirts with the words'#TangkapMalaysianOfficial1' printed on them were seen marching from the Asia City direction towards the Dataran Chong Thien Vun here, at about 2.30pm, Saturday.

Police teams including those from the Light Strike Force led by City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra were at the scene to ensure public order as the youths marched into the venue carrying posters and banners while chanting 'tangkap, tangkap, tangkap MO1'.

The group led by its #TangkapMO1 Sabah Rally Coordinator Mukmin Nantang called on Sabahans to demand greater government accountability and action to tackle the multi-billion-dollar scandal at 1MDB.

"We want to show the world that we, Sabahans, will not keep quiet on corruption, police should arrest criminals and not university students," he said, followed by more chants calling for the arrest of the Malaysian Official 1.

The group started chanting 'hidup, hidup, hidup mahasiswa,…bangkit, bangkit rakyat Sabah…maju maju anak muda…tangkap tangkap MO1, before they were ordered to disperse 10 minutes later.

"At the moment we see there is an offence under the Peaceful Assembly Act," said Chandra, adding it had to do with an incomplete notice to the police.
