36 months for stealing man's wallet

Kota Kinabalu: A 38-year-old local man who stole a man's wallet was sentenced to 36 months' jail on Tuesday.Mohd Nazir Mahamuda pleaded guilty to stealing one Amri Jupry's wallet containing his personal documents and RM200 at 4am on Aug 27 at Kg Air here.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie was told by the prosecution that Amri was resting in his car which he had left unlocked when an unknown man came and took his wallet placed on the front passenger seat.

Amri who tried but failed to catch the man later informed the police.

Police managed to arrest the man, later identified as Nazir, at 8pm the same day at a lodging house in Kg Air.

Nazir had committed an offence under Section 379 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.

In another case, a 22-year-old man was jailed a year for keeping a stolen vacuum cleaner.

Mohd Iezram Hashim admitted to having the stolen item at 3.45pm on Aug 23 at the City Used Car dealer premises, Jalan Putatan near here.

Chief Inspector Lim Swee Beng, prosecuting, told the court that Iezram was arrested by police for having the stolen vacuum cleaner which was reported missing from the said premises.

Mohd Iezram was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both if convicted.
