Anti-illegals crusader quits politics

Kota Kinabalu: Surgeon Dr Chong Eng Leong (pic) has decided to retire from active politics, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah Chairman Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin said, adding Dr Chong, 71, handed his resignation letter on Tuesday."He also relinquished his post as the PKR Sabah Electoral Roll Affairs and Illegal Immigrants Bureau Head," Lajim said. Speaking after attending the State-level National Day celebration, here, Lajim thanked Dr Chong for his service and contributions to the party which the latter joined in 2008 after he left Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS). Although Dr Chong has retired from politics, Lajim said the practising surgeon has assured that he will support any political party that fights for the rights of people in Sabah, including pursuing his claim that the electoral roll in the State needs to be cleaned up and the illegal immigrant issues.He said a new person would be appointed to take up the Electoral Roll Affairs and Illegal Immigrants Bureau Head.
