Tuaran groups win big in National Day parade

Kota Kinabalu: NGOs and schools from the Tuaran district won big in the 2016 State-level National Day parade competition held, here, Wednesday.The Sabah Bajau Sama Association (PBSS) and Lotud Youth Association (Klosa) emerged as champions and runners-up, respectively, in the Ethnic Associations category of the contest for the contingents. In third place was the Sabah Lundayeh Association.

Separately, the Tuaran Badin secondary school (SMK Badin) through its clubs won both the first and second prizes for the Secondary School category. In third place was SMK Putatan.

The Tuaran branch of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society, meanwhile, was the first runners-up in the NGO category which was won by the Information Department.

In third place was Kota Kinabalu Girl Guides. SK Seri Gaya was the champion in the Primary School category, followed by SK St Francis Convent and SK Sacred Heart.

In the category for both public and private institutions of higher learning, UiTM was the champion and followed by KK Polytechnic and in third, Kimanis Petroleum.

For the Private/Commercial Sector, energy provider SESB took the top spot, followed by Yayasan Sabah and Sedco.

The Uniformed Government Departments category was won by the Enforcement Department of City Hall (DBKK) followed by the Sandakan Municipal Council and Royal Customs Department.

After a one-year break, the Sabah Water Department (Jans) took part again in the Non-Uniformed Government Departments category and proved that it is still the best by winning.

The department decided to give a chance to others by not competing last year after winning for 10 consecutive years.

They, however, took part only for display last year.

Meanwhile, Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Moha Zakaria Hj Edris thanked all the 175 contingents that took part this year. There were only 143 contingents last year.

Zakaria, who represented Minister Datuk Seri Hj Hajiji Hj Noor, in the prize-presentation ceremony also noted that for the first time this year, 12 ethnic associations took part in the parade.

Also present were Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, Deputy Ministry of Local Government and Housing permanent secretary Rayman Loudrize and Water Department Deputy Director Ir Teo Chee Kong.
