SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has married Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) news reader Norashikin Abdul Rahman. The marriage took place at the Royal Mosque of Istana Alam Shah in Klang on Aug 31, said the sultan's private secretary Datuk Munir Bani.

It was solemnised by the Mufti of Selangor, Datuk Setia Mohd Tamyes Abdul Wahid, he said in a statement Friday.

Munir said the Deputy Mufti of Selangor, Dr Anhar Opir; Imam Mohd Rasid Mahful; former Deputy Mufti of Selangor Datuk Abdul Majid Omar; Selangor Islamic Affairs Council member Datuk Salehuddin Saidin and Norashikin's father Abdul Rahman and other members of her family were present at the marriage ceremony.

Sultan Sharafuddin was born at Istana Jema'ah Klang (now Sultan Alam Shah Islamic College) on Dec 24, 1945.

This is the sultan's third marriage. He married Raja Zarina Raja Tan Sri Zainal in 1968 and they divorced in 1986.

He then married Puan Nur Lisa Abdullah, an American, and they divorced in 1997.

Sultan Sharafuddin has two daughters, Tengku Zerafina, 47, and Tengku Zatashah, 43, and a son, Tengku Amir Shah, 26, who is the Raja Muda of Selangor.

Norashikin, 45, who hails from Kuala Lumpur, is the youngest of three siblings.

She had worked as an air stewardess and has two children, a girl Nur Amanda, 17, and a boy Adam Salleh, 14, from her previous marriage to airline pilot Mustapha Kamal Halim.

Norashikin won acclaim as the Best TV News Presenter at the Seri Angkasa Awards in 2005.
