Foreigner is caught stealing cables

Tawau: A foreigner in his 20s was caught stealing cables belonging to a utility company at Mile 3 Jalan Apas here, on Friday. The man was caught red handed by a team of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) auxiliary police.SESB Senior General Manager (Asset Management), Muhamad Nazri Pazil said preliminary investigations showed that the paperless man may be linked to a series of copper cable thefts belonging to SESB which have been reported in the district over the past few months.

"Since January to August this year, we have recorded at least eight cases of cable theft here," he said, adding that the man has been handed over to police for further action.Muhamad Nazri said the team also seized tools and equipment, believed to be used to commit crime.He said SESB auxiliary police have increased the number of patrols at locations identified to be targeted sites for thieves. He said such irresponsible activities should be stopped together because it affects power supply and security.
