Labuan: Six years of active contributions to the Lions Club Labuan Mandarin did not go unnoticed by the 47 members of the club, and this was reflected when Jessica Lee Chin Pei was installed as the new President for the 2016-17 term by District Governor 308-A2, Eve Wong.Delivering her maiden speech during the joint installation of the Board of Directors (BoDs) of the club and Lions Club Labuan (Host) along with Leo Club of St Anne, Jessica said:

"Although Labuan is a small island, we will continue to keep Lions' roar heard loud and clear in the region."

She said it was a worldwide Centennial Service to serve at least 100 million people by June 2018 in areas of hunger, youth outreach and environment, among others.

"The Labuan club would continue to support activities related to these areas."

The club has also lined up a number of programmes for the year such as eye camps, cataract operations, recycling and health carnivals.

The club's biggest achievement here was the RM6 million "House of Love", a day care centre for the elderly and is equipped with a kitchen for special needs children in baking skills.

The major project earned global recognition when Lions Club International, in a rare presentation, gave a standard grant of US$75,000 to help complete the project.

In conjunction with the installation, the club had two special guests – Shawn Lee, youth ambassador of National Kidney Foundation and beat-boxing champion, as well as Anthony Loke, last year's winner of Mr Malaysia (Personality).

The duo gave talks and performed during their visits to St Anne's Labuan International School and SM Sains under the outreach programmes.

Others installed were Tan Teck Soo, head of the BoD of Lions Club Labuan by Eve, while BoD of St Anne's Leo Club led by Joey Vei was installed by 2nd Vice District Governor Tiong Yong Ting.

The entertainment for the evening came from Jewel and Nathania Chieng, Shawn and the St Anne's Leo group.

Organising Chairman Chin Kin Yin said the sale of raffles tickets and IT gadgets fetched over RM3,000 in aid of the House of Love.
