Contractor ordered to go on trial

Kota Kinabalu: A 51-year-old contractor charged with three counts of using false documents in vehicle ownership transfers will go on trial on Oct 25-26.Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun set the date for Chong Chun Guan during mention of his case on Thursday.

Chong had on June 6 this year pleaded not guilty to committing the offences at the Road Transport Department in Penampang in 2013.

He allegedly used three forged vehicle ownership transfer forms for three different vehicles at 4.52pm on Oct 23, 2013, at 4.53pm on the same day and at 4.22pm on Oct 25, 2013.

The offence under Section 471 of the Penal Code is punishable under Section 465 of the same Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both on conviction.

Chong was represented by counsel Luke Ressa Balang.

Meanwhile, five men were fined a total of RM4,250 for traffic offences.

Filipino MyPR holder Binji Daih, 23, was ordered to pay a fine of RM800 or two weeks' jail for driving a vehicle overloaded with passengers at 6pm on Jan 5, 2012 along Jalan Lintas here.

Thommy Marcus was fined RM850 or two weeks' jail for riding a motorcycle without a licence at 12.04am on June 16 along Jalan Nenas here.

Yaeya Sabri was fined RM600 or two weeks' jail for riding a motorcycle without having the rear mirror at 5.45pm on June 19 along Jalan Kepayan here.

Jainudin Hasim and Chau Nam Kong admitted to driving their cars without licence and without insurance coverage on May 7 and Aug 14 here, respectively.

Jainudin and Chau were fined a total of RM1,500 and RM1,350 each.

In another case, Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie adjourned to Oct 11 the case of a Filipino charged with murder.

The court set the date after being informed by Ismail Rasad's counsel that they are still waiting for a report from Hospital Mesra on Ismail's observation.

Ismail, 36, is accused of killing another Filipino at 11.30pm on May 1 at Kampung Rampayan.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty on conviction.

Chief Inspector Lim Swee Beng, Inspector Azaman Hamat and traffic prosecuting officer Inspector Hanif Mamyudi appeared for the prosecution.
