Sandakan: Umno's Batu Sapi division delegates meeting has urged the leadership to consider giving the Batu Sapi parliamentary seat to a candidate from Umno in the upcoming elections. The proposal was submitted through a motion at the conference which was agreed to unanimously by the 508 delegates in attendance.Batu Sapi Umno division chief, Datuk Samsudin Yahya said the proposal was in accordance with the current situation and demands to allow for a Barisan Nasional (BN) victory.ADVERTISEMENT According to him, it's time for BN leaders to no longer make the distribution of seats according to tradition, as many factors need to be taken into account to enable candidates to win comfortably."Candidates should be selected based on the potential of victory and those that often go down to the ground to meet the people," he said.He said this during the Batu Sapi Umno delegates meeting at the Sandakan Community Hall. He said, based on criteria other than the majority population in an area, the selected candidate must also have a track record of service to the local people."It's time to make the BN leadership consider more thoroughly in selecting candidates based on their feasibility and advantages.ADVERTISEMENT "We can no longer be guided by traditional criteria such as if A is candidate in a given area, it can no longer be converted to candidate B even if candidate B is better qualified and able to provide a comfortable victory," he added. He added that based on bumiputera voters in Batu Sapi, which reached 71 per cent, it is reasonable that the area be given to a candidate from Umno in the next election.
