Anina withdraws leave to appeal application over expulsion

Putra Jaya: Former Langkawi Wanita Umno member Anina Saadudin has officially withdrawn her application to seek leave to appeal to the Federal Court over her expulsion from the political party.Her counsel, Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla told reporters that he had filed a notice of discontinuance of the application last Thursday.He said the reason for the withdrawal was that it would be academic for Anina to pursue the application because the remedy for a reinstatement as Umno member was no longer available to her.

Mohamed Haniff Khatri said this was because Anina was already a committee member of newly-formed political party, PPBM.At a press conference on Aug 24, Anina had announced she was withdrawing all her civil suits which were filed in her capacity as Umno member as she would be fighting through a new platform, that is PPBM.Mohamed Haniff Khatri said his firm received a telephone call from the court registry, stating that the matter, which was earlier fixed for hearing today, had been taken off.He said he came to court today to confirm whether the matter was taken out off the list of cases, or mentioned in open court for the purpose of withdrawing the matter, and said that after a check at the court registry, the case had been taken off.

Anina had sued Umno Secretary-General Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Umno executive secretary Datuk Ab Rauf Yusoh over her expulsion from Umno.She lost her case at the High Court which allowed an application by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Ab Rauf to strike out the lawsuit.
