KTYS in smart auto industry partnership

Kuala Lumpur: Kolej Teknikal Yayasan Sabah (KTYS) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with DRB-HICOM University of Automotive, Malaysia (DHU)to form a strategic partnership between the two institutions in Putrajaya recently.The agreement, which was part of KTYS expansion plan, was signed by CEO Datin Dr Tarsiah TZ Taman and witnessed by Waky Taim, Senior Manager, Corporate Services. CEO and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Garry James Clayton signed on behalf of DHU Group and witnessed by Chief Operations Officer and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Operations and Administration) Melvin Beh Chin Kwong.

Also present to witness the auspicious ceremony were Chairman of KKYS Sdn Bhd, Datuk Kamal D.E. Quadra, board member of the KKYS Sdn Bhd, Datuk Light Nanis, Melvin Beh Chin Kwong, DHU Chief Operations Officer / Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Operations & Administration)and senior officials from both institutions.

Tarsiah said the collaboration could not have been timelier as it will not only enhance KTYS's academic and training programmes but shall also provide invaluable experiences for the students and staff".

"Ultimately, this smart partnership will pave the way for more industry related programmes which shall provide students from KTYS to have elevated qualifications, skills enhancement and technical knowledge on the specialised requirements of the automotive industry," said Tarsiah.

She added that KTYS shall be the feeder for DHU as it offers mapping for Diploma students in Automative and Electrical as well as other skills programmes to further their studies at DHU.

KTYS was established in 1990 and is fully owned by KKYS Sdn. Bhd.,a wholly-owned company of Yayasan Sabah.

The college is committed to provide excellent educational programmes and technical/vocational learning with the aim of producing professionals who shall explore and develop the necessary technology and human capital development for nation building.

DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia is owned by HICOM University College Sdn. Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of DRB-HICOM Berhad. DHU was officially established on 2nd April 2010 with the approval from the Ministry of Higher Education.

Being one of the largest fully integrated automotive corporation in the country, DRB-HICOM is involved in numerous automotive supply chain activities which include manufacturing of automotive components, vehicle assembly and distribution among others.

Meanwhile, it is anticipated that the collaboration between KTYS and DHU in the field of education particularly, engineering technology, shall assist in realising the national aspiration of creating a knowledgeable and competent workforce for the Malaysian automotive industry.
