Ex-convict jailed, fined for breaking into church

Kota Kinabalu: A 26-year-old former convict was sentenced to 20 months' jail and fined RM3,000 or four months' jail for breaking into a church in Penampang.Julsie Junior Golingi admitted to breaking into the office of the Maranatha Church at Kg Inobong between 4am and 5am on July 13 and stealing a LCD projector.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus was informed by the prosecution that the pastor of the church had lodged a police report regarding the burglary.

Investigation revealed that the burglar had gained entry to the premises by prising open its main door.

Police extracted a fingerprint from the door which was later found to match Julsie who was then arrested on July 18.

Inspector P. Nathan, prosecuting, told the court that Julsie had two previous convictions for rioting in 2012 where he was jailed two months and for assisting to conceal stolen items on Aug 1 this year for which he was fined RM4,000 or six months' jail.

In another case, the court set Oct 11 for further mention of a case involving a man charged with having for sell uncensored DVD films.

Balitus fixed the date for Lee Cheh Luen pending the status of a representation letter that his counsel would be writing to the DPP's office.

Lee is accused of displaying 154 pieces of the DVD at M Speedy Home Entertainment at Central Plaza at 1pm on July 31.

Counsel Edward Paul representing Lee informed the court that they planned to write a representation letter to the DPP's office.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old Dalim Hataman charged with keeping a stolen handphone will go on trial on Oct 18.

Dalim still maintained his innocence to having the gadget at 6.15am on July 26 at Kg Tanjung Aru here.
