Utusan fails to get leave to appeal RM250,000 damages

Putra Jaya: Former Perak mentri besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin is expected to get RM250,000 in damages in a defamation suit over the WWW1 number plate bought by the Johor Sultan.This follows a decision of the Federal Court's three-man bench led by Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Richard Malanjum to dismiss Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd's application to obtain leave to appeal.Utusan Melayu sought leave to appeal to the Federal Court against a High Court decision which had allowed Mohammad Nizar's lawsuit and ordered the publisher of the Malay newspaper to pay him damages.
