14 teams taking part in Inter- Church Basketball C'ship

Kota Kinabalu: Twelve male and two female teams from 10 churches are taking part in the 3rd Under God Kota Kinabalu (UGKK) Inter-Church Basketball Championship which started on Tuesday until September 25.The tournament organised by UG Basketball Club with the theme 'Change' is exclusively for church members of churches in Kota Kinabalu area.

The churches participating are Anglican Diocese; Glory Christian Centre; Basel Christian Churches of Malaysia, Sabah; Petros City Church; Methodist Church; 611 Holy Seal; KK Bread Of Life Apostolic Church; Calvary Charismatic Church; Roman Catholic and Sidang Injil Borneo.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Deputy President cum Sustainable Energy Development Authority of Malaysia (SEDA) chairman Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai.

In his speech, he praised the organiser for promoting unity through sports and for providing a physical platform for church members to interact and network with each other.

"As we know it, the church provides a spiritual platform to fulfil our spiritual needs, and to be a balanced individual, we also need a physical platform such as playing sports to keep our physical body and mind healthy, especially in this day and age where everyone is too preoccupied by the internet and social media at the expense of their physical wellbeing, thus to have a physical platform to encourage more people to take up sports must be commended and encourage," he added.

He also reminded the players that although everyone plays to win, in this tournament what is more important is the message of unity and to appreciate the spirit of sportsmanship and kinship among the players from various churches.

Also present during the opening ceremony were Sabah Basketball Association honorary advisor Pan Chee Yuen, Kota Kinabalu Basketball Association chairman Fung Chun Fatt, tournament sponsor, Enoch Khoo from Property Hub, and UGKK organising chairman Tai Ket Hau.
