JCKL retain Kendo title

Kota Kinabalu: JCKL (Kuala Lumpur Japanese Team) successfully defended their title at the 3rd Japanese Ambassador's Cup /3rd Malaysia Kendo Association (MKA) Inter-Club –Dojo Competition which was held at SMK Lok Yuk , Likas on Saturday.They beat MKA 4-1 in the final to retain their title which was witnessed by the Head of Consular Office of Japan here, Hiroko Matsuo. A total of eight teams from six dojos throughout the country took part in the one-day event jointly organised by the Japanese government and MKA with joint third place went to teams from Sabah and Penang.

Matsuo in her speech praised the organisers for holding the competition in East Malaysia for the first time following the first two meets in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

She hoped through the competition, people here will have a better understanding of Japanese tradition and the heart of the Japanese.

"As you may know, the objective of Kendo is usually referred "to the Way of developing the person".

Kendo is not just a mere sport, but is also Budo, a way of life encompassing the physical, spiritual, and moral aspects with a focus on self-improvement through continuous harsh training, "Keiko," She said.

Meanwhile, a joint training session and grading exams were held in the afternoon session.
