Pakistani claims trial over plane hijack threat

Kota Kinabalu: A 62-year-old Pakistani who allegedly committed criminal intimidation against an airline staff by threatening her that he will hijack its plane, claimed trial to the charge on Tuesday.Salman Khan, a trader, made the plea before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie after the charge was read to him.

He allegedly committed the offence by uttering the words 'I'm hijacking your airplane' to the female staff of the airline at the counter of Gate B2 at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, here at 8.50am on Sept 16 this year.

The offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.

Abbie fixed Oct 25 for case management and ordered Salman remanded further pending the date until his counsel gets verification on his passport from the Pakistan Embassy.

Earlier, Inspector Azaman Hamat, who appeared for the prosecution proposed a bail of RM10,000 as the case involved public interest.

However, Salman's counsel asked for the bail amount to be reduced saying Salman is holding a passport and that he has a wife and three children in the State.

Meanwhile, in the same court, a 40-year-old man was sentenced to a year's jail for stealing four-metre length of cable belonging to a company.

Crando Vin Jimmie pleaded guilty to stealing the cable belonging to I-Water Engineering at 12.40pm on Sept 16 at Warisan Inanam area, near here. The court ordered Crando to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.
