Probe into extension of Penanpang housing road

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) staff are investigating the goings-on along a Penampang housing road.This follows a home-owner's concerns about the manner in which the stretch was being extended by a developer for a nearby condominium.The resident claimed that the access road to the construction site was located very close to a monopole supporting some high-tension cables.

He feared that a sudden electrical discharge from these structures would be hazardous to road-users and those living nearby.The individual provided the location of the stretch which was forwarded to SESB on September 7.A spokesman for the firm said the relevant section had been alerted to the resident's misgivings."We will have to verify his claims, before proceeding with further action," he said.

The Daily Express reader who lives in Taman Farmosa Phase 1B, voiced his apprehensions about the proximity of the road to the existing SESB's installations."I suspect that the stretch has encroached into the 'buffer zone' for the monopole, if not the tower at the construction site," he said.

"I was made to understand that this "zone" covered a 20 metre circumference around the base of the power structures, when I related my fears to SESB staff over the phone."In light of the safety concerns, he hoped the developer would consider shifting the access road to the construction site further away from the pole.Fred also wanted to know whether the developer had obtained permission from the relevant authority, prior to extending the road near his home.He said he had written to the District Council about this in September.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
