Family of Brazilian offers reward to whoever finds him

GEORGE TOWN: The family of Lucas Bondezan, 24, who went missing after the yacht he was in had capsized last Friday, 15 nautical miles west from Mukah Head had offered a reward to whoever that found him alive or otherwise. Penang Maritime District II Director Rozali Mohd Said said the family of the Brazilian had gone to several possible places Lucas had visited whether in Penang or Kedah to spread the notice. "We want to make it clear that the reward is from the family, not from the enforcement agency.

"However, we do not know how much is being offered," he said during a press conference here Thursday. In the poster, the family had asked those who had seen Lucas, who was wearing a white shirt, black shorts and possibly suffering injuries to call 013-2344378 or 019-2853906. Rozali also said that the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) was still looking for the missing person and currently two assets, KM Gagah and KM Sugut had been deployed to assist the search and rescue operation. "The wreckage has not been found yet till now due to bad weather and strong sea current and there is a possibility that the wreckage had shifted to another place," he said.

Rozali also said that Langkawi Malaysian Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) had written to the Navy to assist them in finding the yacht wreckage using sonar. "Once we had located the wreckage using sonar, we can deploy our Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) that could go down as deep as 300 metres into the sea. We hope we can find him soon," he said.

In the incident last Friday morning, the luxury yacht UN1K owned by a French owner Pascal Vuanh-Quan had exploded mid sea 15 nautical miles west of Mukah Head while on its way to Singapore from Langkawi with four people on board.The owner of the yacht who is also the brother-in-law to Lucas had also deployed his boat and chopper to assist the search and rescue but it was fruitless.
