Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) urged the State Government to carry out rigorous investigation into the viral video showing enforcement personnel taking bribes in exchange for free entry into Sabah. The party's organising secretary Peter Chong Su Leong said that allowing the entry of illegal immigrants into the country is a betrayal of national sovereignty and an act of treason against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

He demanded the culprits to be brought to justice.

"These government servants must be severely penalised for their actions," he said in a statement, Monday.

Chong said the enforcement personnel have undermined the government's effort to beef up security in the East Coast of Sabah.

"They have opened the door wide for illegal immigrants to enter Sabah and consequently rendered our security measures useless.

"We know nothing about the illegal immigrants or their intention to enter our State. Without immigration records, they pose a huge risk to Sabah," he said.

With the growing threat of terrorism, Chong said the Islamic State (IS) or Abu Sayyaf terrorists are eyeing every possible opportunity to infiltrate the State.

"What the enforcement personnel have done by allowing illegal immigrants to enter into the State through the back door is unforgivable," he added.

Chong proposed that the State Government set up a special committee to investigate whether the incident was an isolated case or a common practice at certain entry points. He also proposed an investigation to find out how long such malpractice has been going on.

He also called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate and expose the enforcement personnel involved. He said it falls under the duty of the agency as the personnel involved had used their position to profit themselves, if the allegations were true.
