Peng elected Sabah West Coast Transportation Association chief

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah West Coast Lorry Transportation Association elected its 9th term council members at the association's Annual General Meeting in June this year.In his speech, newly elected chairman Peng Kim Hwa thanked the past chairmen for their efforts for the past two decades."With their dedication and persistence, we finally have our first office premise at Inanam Business Centre, obtained a four-acre land at Kolombong from City Hall for a tenure of 20 years as a lorry depot, increased loading allowance from five per cent to 10 per cent more than the vehicles' permissible maximum weight (BDM) and reduced the compound for overloading to only RM300.ADVERTISEMENT "Furthermore, under their leadership, we have had several dialogues with relevant government departments, resolving many issues such as Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (SCVLB) improving their efficiency in renewing and applying of licences and decreasing instances of JPJ's wrongful summonses," he said.He added that the association has taken a step forward to promote and further strengthen their relations with government departments and statutory bodies such as RTD, Public Works Department, police, City Hall, Puspakom and others."We will also continue to strive for the increase of vehicle permissible maximum weight which we have consistently requested since year 2000."Apart from that, we will continue to assist members solve legal problems, technical problems and matters affecting the lorry transportation service industry, especially unfair treatment to our industry.ADVERTISEMENT "In order to achieve these objectives, we need more transportation service providers to join the association as members to strengthen our unity and we can work on common goals such as to reject Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to start their enforcement in Sabah," he said.The new line-up had appointed Datuk Edward Khoo as the association Honorary Advisor, Ram Singh as their legal advisor and Lee Yun Sang, Adrian Ho Su Fah, Jimmy Ng Vui Boon and Foo Fook Shing as the association's advisors for the association.

The committee also proposed to have their 20th Anniversary Dinner with the goal of gathering all transport service providers in the State, suppliers and government agencies to foster better relations with one another.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"Other than this, we are planning to organise a grand truck expo in the next two years. We hope this expo will educate the public, promote progress and foster cooperation between suppliers and transporters," he said.
