RM2.6b donation: Anina withdraws appeal on her lawsuit against PM

Putra Jaya: Former Langkawi Wanita Umno member Anina Saadudin has withdrawn her appeal on the dismissal of her lawsuit against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Umno executive secretary Datuk Ab Rauf Yusoh over the RM2.6 billion donation issue.Lawyer Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun, representing Najib and Ab Rauf, when contacted said that Anina's counsel had filed a notice of discontinuance of the appeal this month."Anina had offered to pay RM5,000 in costs and we agreed. Therefore, it is the end of the matter of her lawsuit brought against Najib and Ab Rauf," he said.

Meanwhile, Anina's lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, when contacted said the notice of discontinuance was filed on Sept 22 because Anina decided to withdraw the appeal as she wanted to continue her fight and struggle through a different platform – the political party, PPBM.He said it did not make sense for Anina to continue to pursue her appeal as she was no longer an Umno member.Mohamed Haniff said since Anina withdrew her appeal which was fixed for hearing today, to be fair to the parties in the case who would have already prepared their case, Anina agreed to pay costs.On Dec 12, last year, the High Court struck out Anina's civil suit against Najib, who is also Umno president, and Ab Raub.
