Kota Kinabalu: Allegations made over social media linking the National Registration Department in Sabah with dubious activities have been rubbished by its Director Dato' Ismail Ahmad. "The allegations are untrue and defamatory," he said on Tuesday when asked about the accusations of alleged securing of MyKads for illegal immigrants at its Papar branch and issuing of receipts for the purpose of voting in the 14th General Election. "All those present at the counters at that time were locals," he said, adding a police report has been lodged by the Papar branch chief over the matter.

He said allegations that Umno/Barisan Nasional has engaged the department to deprive the rights of indigenous Sabahans by issuing receipts to 13 new state seats in Sabah for the purpose of voting in the 14th General Election were also not true.
"This issue is not true and the receipts are fake," he said.Allegations on MyKads being secured for illegal immigrants in the department's Papar branch received various reactions from the people after it was posted on a Facebook page on Sept 21.

Two video clips, which lasted for about 51 seconds, were also uploaded to the page, showing a man which it claimed was behind the securing of MyKads for illegal immigrants. The Facebook posting led the Putatan Chairman of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dakwah Islamiah Mundang Ismail to lodge a police report after he received death threats following the video footage of him at the National Registration Department's Papar branch.
