Genting to invest RM740m for shipyards

WILMAR (Germany): Genting Group is set to invest €160 million (RM740 million) for its three shipyards in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern over the next three years. "The investment will be, among others, for (the use of) the latest robotics (in shipbuilding)," Chairman and Chief Executive of Genting Group, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay said. The investment, which is also meant for a new office building to house up to 685 workplaces, cabin manufacturing and material logistic centre, is set to make MV Werften as one of world's most efficient cruise ship builders. He said this during the official visit of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's to the shipyard. Genting Group through Genting Hong Kong Ltd acquired three shipyards in Wismar, WarnemUnde and Stralsund for RM1.04 billion last year to further its presence in the sector.
