Kota Kinabalu: Pemuda Pakatan Harapan Sabah on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman calling for security issues in the State to be resolved. The memorandum was jointly submitted by Pemuda Amanah Sabah Communications Director Khairuddin Daud, Pemuda Amanah Sabah Secretary Asraf Sharafi, Angkatan Muda Keadilan Sabah Committee Member Razeef Rakimin and Henry Shim who represented Pemuda Sosialis DAP.

"We submit the memorandum in view of the 10-minute video broadcast by Transmedia Indonesia which alleged how easily hundreds of illegal Indonesian immigrants cross over to Tawau on a daily basis," said Khairuddin in a statement here.

He said the spread of the video clip clearly demonstrates the Government's attitude in addressing illegal immigrant issues in the country, especially in Sabah.

"Worse, it clearly shows how the boundaries of territorial waters are actually very easily encroached by outsiders," he said.

The video broadcast by TransMedia Indonesia alleged that hundreds of illegal immigrants enter Tawau easily by bribing officers with between RM50 and RM100.

The video was also uploaded to YouTube on July 11, this year by Trans_7 and also on Facebook where it went viral on various social media pages.

Khairuddin said the authorities seemed to be not serious in addressing the issue, the cause for the country being in danger.

"Not surprisingly, kidnapping cases and illegal entry happen very often, and these events often involve the lives and safety of the people and tourists.

"Pemuda Pakatan Harapan Sabah views the spreading of the video clip as giving a negative image in the eyes of the world, which could affect the confidence of tourists visiting Sabah.

"By simply using a 'boat', without weapons and so on, foreigners can easily surpass national boundaries declared as Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) and Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) without any identification documents," he said.

He said Pemuda Pakatan Harapan would like to remind the State and Federal Government, especially the Home Affairs Ministry and Defence Ministry, Esscom and Esszone leaders, to take seriously state border security issues and intrusions by foreigners.

"We do not want this issue to be pushed aside and hushed up. The people need to know and get an explanation from the agencies involved," he said.

He said Pemuda Pakatan Harapan has also listed three proposals in the memorandum, first is to provide for a special state assembly sitting to discuss and resolve security issues in Sabah.

"Second is to establish a special action committee composed of academicians, politicians and national security institutions to formulate a strategic plan to resolve security issues. "Third is to eradicate corruption among security enforcement officers in Sabah," he said.
