Threat to hijack plane: Pakistani secures bail

Kota Kinabalu: A 62-year-old Pakistani charged with threatening to hijack a plane two weeks ago managed to secure bail on Thursday.Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun granted trader Salman Khan a bail of RM5,000 in two sureties, following a bail application made by his counsel Sugumar Balakrishnan.The court also set a condition that the second surety must be Salman's local wife and he was ordered to report to the police station every two weeks as well as surrender his passport to the court.

Jessica maintained the case management date on Oct 25.Salman had, on Sept 22, claimed trial to criminally intimidating an airline staff by threatening her that he will hijack its plane.He allegedly uttered the words "I'm hijacking your airplane" to the female staff of the airline at the counter of Gate B2 at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, here, at 8.50am on Sept 16, this year.The offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, on conviction.

Sugumar, in applying for the bail, told the court that Salman was willing to surrender his passport to the court and that he is staying in the city since he is married to a local and has three children. Salman confirmed that he married in 2009. He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine, or both, on conviction.

In another case, an 18-year-old local man was charged with having dangerous weapons in public.Md Sukri Sukarman pleaded not guilty to having two knives at 2.30am on Sept 15 at a roadside of Kg Lembaga Padi, in Inanam.He claimed that the weapons were found outside his car and that they belonged to his friends.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
