Cleaner jailed, caned for stealing baby garments

Kota Kinabalu: A 20-year-old cleaner was sent to prison for 36 months and fined RM1,000 or four months' jail for stealing baby garments worth RM250.Hairudsa Hairuddin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to stealing 10 pieces of garment at the Ngiu Kee store on the ground floor of the Centre Point Sabah complex at 3pm on Sept 26.The court also ordered Hairudsa, who holds the IMM13 document, referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence.ADVERTISEMENT Hairudsa was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and fine on conviction.In another case, a businessman was fined RM25 or one day's jail for causing fear to his business partner by uttering threatening words to him.Lai Hong Yong, 64, admitted to committing the offence to one Foo Jong Jow at 8.20am on May 7, 2013 at the office of M/S Empire Roof and Metal Corporation, Km 1, Jalan Kota Kinabalu-Papar Lama, Donggongon.The court heard that prior to the incident, Foo came to Lai's office to demand payment of a debt but Lai had threatened him.ADVERTISEMENT Lai, in requesting for leniency, apologised to the court, saying he was not happy with Foo for wanting to have an argument with him early in the morning.He was charged under Section 8(1)(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a RM25 fine on conviction.
