Penampang: Penampang Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will submit a formal protest to the Election Commission (EC) over the proposal to transfer 3,641 voters from Lido to Luyang. Its chief Kenny Chua said the party will make the submission with assistance from Bersih Sabah.

More than 500 flyers he said had been distributed to residents in Lido on Monday by the Kepayan Task Force (KTF), Penampang Member of Parliament Office and Bersih Sabah, to raise awareness about the proposal.

According to Chua, who is also the Kepayan Task Force chairman, most of the voters were not happy about being shifted to Luyang.

He said they prefer to vote in the Penampang parliamentary and Kepayan state seats.

"They (voters) were in the same view with us that the shifting of 3,641 voters to Luyang is merely a dirty game plan of the Barisan Nasional government to recapture Kepayan."

"We have seen such exercise being carried out by the BN government in many areas and it has proven to be vital.

Lido voters must not allow themselves to be fooled by such tactics. As strong opposition supporters, Lido voters must come out and stand for their rights by signing the petition that would be launched on Friday," said Chua.

He urged voters not to take the government's reasoning that the shifting exercise is because Lido is under the administrative of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and not under the District of Penampang.

"For the record, few other areas under Kepayan are actually divided under the administrative of DBKK and Penampang District Council (PDC)," he pointed out.

He said by removing the 3,641 voters out of Lido, BN's chances to win Kepayan will be enhanced as more than 80 per cent voted for the opposition candidates - Darell Leiking for Penampang Parliamentary seat and Dr Edwin Bosi for Kepayan state seat in the last general election.

Although confident that voters in Lido will not fall for EC's proposal, Chua said many are still not aware that they will be voting under different constituency as the EC only stressed on the new 13 state seats.

He said PKR Penampang will open up booths for the Signature Drive Campaign at a coffee shop next to Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet on Friday (Oct 7) from 8am-2pm, Saturday (Oct 8) from 8am-3pm and Sunday (Oct 9) 8am-3pm.

"Residence should check their voting list with us during those three days. We will also open up counters for new voter registration," Chua said.
