Blaze in RMN interceptor boat injures 5
Semporna: Five members of the Royal Malaysian Navy were injured when fire broke out in an interceptor boat at the KD Sri Semporna jetty here on Friday. According to a media statement issued by the navy, the personnel sustained minor injuries and have been sent to the hospital where they are reported to be in stable condition following the 2.20pm mishap.

While confirming the incident, the statement said a small fire occurred when personnel switched on the boat engine in preparation to carry personnel from the jetty to the Tun Sharifah Rodziah sea base for duty exchange.

"Personnel on the jetty acted fast and extinguished the fire with help from the fire and rescue auxiliary team within 10 minutes," it said.

Initial investigations revealed that the fire could have been triggered by short circuit and oil leakage on the boat.

The navy, with help from firefighters, will set up an investigation board to establish the real cause.
