Kota Kinabalu: Four police reports were lodged against Umno Sungai Besar Chief Dato' Seri Jamal Yunos by four NGOs and a political party in relation to Jamal's statement which was deemed threatening and seditious in nature. The group comprising Bersih Sabah represented by Chairperson Beverly Joeman, Sabah Pakatan Harapan Youth chairman Khairuddin Daud, Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) chairman Razeef Rahim and Moyog Assemblyman Office representative Mathew Yong, made the report at Karamunsing police station here, Monday.

On Sept 21, Jamal uploaded the following statement on his Facebook page, 'Saya berjanji Tragedi 13 May akan berulang dan Parang Terbang akan terjadi jika Bersih 5 dibuat pada masa, tarikh dan tempat yang sama dengan perhimpunan #BERSIH5 yang dijadualkan pada 19 November ini.' (I promise May 13 Tragedy will repeat itself and machetes will fly if Bersih 5 takes place at the same time, date and place with #BERSIH5 gathering set to be held on Nov 19).

Bersih 5 Sabah Chairperson Beverly Joeman said Jamal's statement was intimidating and seditious in nature with the intent of causing chaos in the country.

"Jamal obviously tried to instigate disorder by urging Red Shirts to go to war with Bersih 5 participants on Nov 19.

"Other than that, Jamal's sentence also clearly indicated his plan to wage war against the King by replicating the May 13 tragedy," she said.

Beverly added that in several series of Bersih Convoy nationwide, participants were harassed in various ways by the Red Shirt team with Jamal being one of the antagonists.

In Sabah, she said, there was also an incident meant to provoke Bersih Convoy participants where three vehicles belonging to convoy participants were damaged by unknown individuals while the participants were distributing pamphlets at Tawau Central Market.

"Disturbances and provocations done by the Red Shirt team indirectly endorsed the threat made by Jamal through the social media. Therefore, we believe and we are confident that police will take the appropriate action and investigate Jamal," she said.

Following the statement made by Jamal, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had tweeted that the statement issued by Jamal is unacceptable and vowed that swift action will be taken by the police.
