SPH head Puan Sri Yeh passes away
Kota Kinabalu: Puan Sri Yeh Lim York Sham, the matriarch of the Yeh family and Chairman of Sabah Publishing House Sdn Bhd (SPH) – the respected institution which pioneered the local Chinese and English print media industry in Sabah – passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning. She was 85.

She leaves behind three children, 10 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. Her only son, Datuk Clement Yeh, is the Managing Director of SPH Sdn Bhd.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, in expressing his condolences, said the late Puan Sri will always be remembered as the truly remarkable other half of the enterprising husband-and-wife team that pioneered the local vernacular and English newspaper industry in Sabah.

"I wish to convey my deepest condolences to the family on the occasion of her demise and hope that they will remain strong during this moment of grief.

"I also hope that the newspapers that they started will continue to play an important and objective role in Sabah," he said.

Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Mohd Salleh said the late Puan Sri Yeh and her late husband Tan Sri Yeh formed a great team which led to the Daily Express and OCDN establishing themselves as Sabah's leading and most respected newspapers.

Harris said that without the help of these two newspapers, it would have been difficult for his Parti Berjaya to come to power in 1976.

"She was very supportive of her husband's work when he campaigned for Berjaya," he said.
