Kuala Lumpur: And now, you'll never fly alone. In line with Liverpool Football Club's (LFC) world-famous motto, "You'll never walk alone", Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS) announced its status as the official global airline partner of the legendary Merseyside giants. The move is geared towards promoting the national airline worldwide and attracting tourists especially from China, reported the New Straits Times.

MAS chief executive officer Peter Bellew said the partnership with one of the best-supported clubs worldwide will allow MAS to reach an international audience of more than one billion.

He said Liverpool FC is one of the most followed clubs in the world, including around 100 million fans in Southeast Asia and 40 million in China, both of which are MAS' key markets. The partnership, he said, will go a long way in increasing awareness of Malaysia as a tourist destination to a huge global audience.

"We are working really hard to make the airline the pride of nation once again... We believe that this partnership will take MAS into a global level and sell many tickets," Bellew told a press conference after the announcement of the MAS - Liverpool FC partnership.

The deal includes a three-year partnership between the two brands. Under the agreement, MAS will have LED and static board brand exposure at each home game at Anfield stadium as well as exposure on the Liverpool FC website, publications and Facebook page besides co-branding opportunities in merchandising rights and customer engagement via experiential experiences such as pitch side access.

MAS will also have access to players to be featured as ambassadors and in all related communication materials.

Liverpool FC is one of the best-supported clubs worldwide and a record winner of eight League Cups.

The football club's chief commercial officer Billy Hogan said Liverpool and Malaysia have always shared a special passion for football.

"When we visited Malaysia on our pre-season tour in 2011 and 2015, the reception was incredible.

The partnership is a reflection of this bond and we are very much looking forward to a bright future working with MAS," he said.

The deal between MAS and Liverpool FC is well under 10 per cent of the national airline's advertising and promotional budget, Bellew said without sharing any details.

He also said China is currently the strongest business market for MAS as the sentiment towards the airline in the country has improved.

MAS is also currently trying to get more slots to Beijing and Shanghai so that it could increase the number of flights to the two destinations in the near future.
