Kota Kinabalu: The new UD Quester 8 litre truck finally arrived on Sabah shores here Friday, following its official launch in Kuala Lumpur in May. It's the extension of the Quester 11 litre which was launched in 2013, a segment that has been well-received nationwide since its arrival in Malaysia.

Quester is built and refined based on insights from customers who come mostly from companies that deal with heavy loads on the day-to-day basis.

The Quester electronic feature called the UD Telematics for example allows trucking companies to track the movement of the UD Quester and pin point location whenever the truck has an engine breakdown linked to a call centre.

The Telematics also tracks fuel usage allowing companies to control their cost of logistics and carry out electronic diagnosis to determine problems with the engine during breakdowns.

"Quester also has an onboard coaching that tells drivers when to accelerate and change gears to allow fuel efficiency and top operation.

"Telematics allow the call centre to find the fault codes in whenever there's engine failure, while tracking down the point where it has stalled," said Tan Chong Industrial Equipment (TCIE) Product Development and Training Manager, Boey Lai Ming.

She said this during the Quester Open House event for East Malaysia here, which is also the final stop of the nationwide Quester Open House campaign to introduce the new Quester 8 litre engine.

It was held in Penang, Ipoh, Melaka, Johor and Kuching in Sarawak previously.

According to the TCIE Sabah Senior Manager Sabah Operations, Brian Lee Chee Siong, the UD Quester had received an overwhelming response from customers after the introduction of the 11-litre engine here three years ago.

"This is especially a boon for companies moving oil palm fruits. The Quester was quite practical in handling the Sabah terrain where agricultural land is in abundance," he said.

He said TCIE is also optimistic the 8-litre Quester will receive similar response especially companies handling deliveries in the lesser graveled tracks.

"For the record, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd has already committed 14 of UD Quester to transport their gen-sets with most of them already on the State roads," he said.

The new Quester 8L comes in 4x2, 6x2 and 6x4 models as an addition to Quester 11L of 4x2, 6x2, 6x4 and 8x4.

Both models are fitted with UD Telematics, on board electronic system that monitors driver's performance and the health of the truck.

TCIE is offering a massive discount to the first 20 orders with the promotion ending this November.

The open house here also saw TCIE handing over the orders for two Questers to local companies Srilindale Sdn Bhd and ST Borneo Sand Sdn Bhd.
