Evading RM4.2m GST: Cosmetics queen charged
Kuala Lumpur: Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman, a cosmetics millionaire better known as Dr Vida, was slapped Thursday with 32 charges over failure to pay the Goods and Services Tax (GST) amounting to RM4.2 million. Vida, 45-year-old founder and owner of Vida Beauty Sdn Bhd that sells Qu Puteh products, pleaded not guilty to the charges at the Ipoh Sessions Court under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act 2014.

According to the charge sheet, Vida was accused of failing to produce accounts and of not paying GST totalling about RM4.2 million from April 2015, when the broad-based consumption tax was introduced in Malaysia, to July this year.

Justice Murtazadi Amran set bail at RM1.76 million for all the charges and ordered the confiscation of Vida's passport and travel documents pending the end of the trial.

The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutors Datuk Raja Rozela Raja Toran and Farah Ezlin Yusop Khan, while Hasmiza was represented by lawyers Khairilazwar Khalil and Syed Ahmad Syed Abas.

The court set Nov 15 for mention.
