RM230,000 to schools, NGOs
Kota Kinabalu: The family of the late Puan Sri Lim York Sham, the Chairman of Sabah Publishing House Sdn Bhd (SPH), donated a total of RM230,000 to nine Chinese independent schools, a kindergarten and four non-government organisations (NGOs), including the Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA), Saturday. Datuk Clement Yeh, who is SPH Managing Director and a KKJA advisor, presented the donations to the respective schools and NGOs at a luncheon after her funeral service.

Puan Sri Yeh passed away last Tuesday at age 85. She left behind three children, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The late Puan Sri had been a generous contributor to worthy causes in the past.

The three working committees of the funeral, namely Kota Kinabalu Hokkien Association, Foochow Association Kota Kinabalu and Sekolah Menengah Kian Kok received RM30,000 each.

The nine independent schools – Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School, SM Kian Kok, Papar Middle School, Sabah Chinese High School, Tawau, Pei Tsin High School, Kudat, Beaufort Middle School, Tenom Tshung Tsin Secondary School, Lahad Datu Middle School and Yu Yuan Secondary School, Sandakan – received RM10,000 each.

Clement also presented a donation of RM10,000 each to KKJA, Tadika Tzu Yu Bersepadu Kota Kinabalu, Welfare Committee of Foochow Association Kota Kinabalu, Welfare Committee of Kota Kinabalu Hokkien Association and the concert band of SM Kian Kok.

Meanwhile, it was a tearful final moment at the funeral service for the Yeh family, including Clement who broke down as officiating Anglican priest Rev David Wong hailed the passing of an accomplished lady of great generosity and care.

He said it was, indeed, a "sad day" to all those who knew her well.

"Today, as we gather here our hearts are saddened by the loss of the one we love, respect and know for so many years as great grandmother, grandmother, mother, sister, friend, comrade who had inspired us by what she has done to her family, for all her achievements and things she had done for each and everyone of our lives," Rev Wong said.

However, Rev Wong said he believed the sadness bound by the brevity of life was more than comforted by Puan Sri's finding the right and narrow path that promised eternal joy in the presence of God.

"I thank God that our dear Puan Sri found it and that's why we today not only remember her and celebrate her life, we also know she is now with Jesus in heaven," Rev Wong said to a packed crowd of friends, staff, political and community leaders present to pay their last respects at Fook Lu Siew Funeral Parlour.

Citing testimonies from his flock, Rev Wong said:

"Every time our All Saints' Cathedral Senior Chinese Group visited her, she was filled with joy because she was eager to have fellowship and sharing with her and I am told her heart was filled with joy because of the presence of God."

He went on: "I encourage all of us to remember the sweet memories that you had with our dear sister Puan Sri and let that be an inspiration and motivation in our lives so that we can continue the many good works and legacy that she had laid for everyone and that is something we want to give thanks for."

Following the funeral service, the cortege left for the scenic Nirvana Memorial Park in Telipok for burial, passing the Sabah Publishing House headquarters printing, administrative and editorial office in Kolombong enroute Inanam and Mengattal.

Rev David Wong was on hand to officiate the last rite before Puan Sri's casket was entombed by about 12.30pm.
