Kuala Lumpur: A movie based on the life story of Malaysia's world number one badminton player, Datuk Lee Chong Wei will be released in 2018."For three years we have been persuading Chong Wei to give us the rights to film his life story and at last he agreed and gave us the rights. In the mean time, we are currently persuading him to also act in the movie.

We did not have his consent yet.

"This will be an authentic story about Chong Wei. According to our plan, we will start filming the movie by middle of 2017 and would be released in 2018," said producer Josiah Chieng when met at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), here Tuesday.

Chong Wei's brother, Lee Chong Hoon represented the sports icon at the MoU signing ceremony with CB Pictures Sdn Bhd, giving the movie production rights for the film producer to produce Chong Wei's life story.

Chong Wei did not attend the ceremony since he is currently in Denmark for the Denmark Open Super Series.

Chieng noted that the film genre would be a motivational movie which will inspire everyone both locally and internationally.

"Datuk Lee Chong Wei is a sports icon. He is the Malaysian hero. The story is a must have for Malaysia...not only in Malaysia but also worldwide. This is a Malaysian movie.

"CB Pictures is honoured to have secured the rights to produce a feature-length motion picture that depicts the story of Lee Chong Wei," he said.

He added that the cost of the movie would be RM4.5 million to RM6 million and the audition for the film cast would be held in December. – Bernama
