Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) hopes the government will provide sufficient allocation in Budget 2017, particularly for hosting the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games and the Asean Para Games. Its minister, Khairy Jamaluddin said he had met with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last week to present the ministry's needs for 2017.

"The SEA Games and the Asean Para Games would cost over RM500 million while the Podium programme would need another RM30 million.

"Other major programmes are National Football Development, Kita Juara, National Sports Day and Fit Malaysia," he told reporters after releasing participants of Tour of Malaysia (TOM) at Dataran Merdeka, here Tuesday.

Commenting on TOM, Khairy hopes the race would not encounter any problems in terms of safety, route, logistics and finance.

"I also hope the Tour of Malaysia can continue to be held since it is the oldest cycling event in Southeast Asia," he added. – Bernama
