AirAsia bags 2 awards at World Travel Awards

Kuala Lumpur: Low-cost carrier AirAsia was named "Asia's Leading Low-Cost Airline" for the fourth time and also won its first "Asia's Leading Inflight Service" award at the World Travel Awards (Asia and Australasia) in Da Nang, Vietnam on Saturday.AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said the airline's success shows that its service is not only best-in-class, but also the best of both low-cost and full-service.

"We have only just started. We have many more innovative ideas that we're working on right now to make our inflight service even better," he said in a statement Tuesday.

The statement said the World Travel Awards (Asia and Australasia) serve to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the travel and tourism industry in the Asia Pacific.

"The awards are chosen by thousands of travel professionals and high-end tourism consumers," it said.

It added that airlines are judged on customer satisfaction and service quality, overall business performance, product innovation, staff relations and development, corporate social responsibility and contribution to the local community, commitment to sustainable policies, as well as fulfilment of long-term corporate vision.
