339 Nabawan folks get communal land titles

NABAWAN: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman flew into Pagalungan on Tuesday to personally handover the communal grant for Kg Logonggon in Pagalungan to its 339 beneficiaries.The land, he said, is freely given to the people as the Government's way of taking care of the populace, especially the natives of this land."Furthermore, this gesture is proof of the Government's sincerity in helping the hardcore poor among the natives so that they will be able to live more comfortably," he said.ADVERTISEMENT Musa rubbished accusations that communal grants take away NCR lands of the natives saying that such fears are unfounded."These lands will be yours, just the same as native title lands."You can hand it down to your children and the land will stay in your family for many generations to come."Furthermore, you can work the land any way you wish. ADVERTISEMENT "The only difference is that you cannot sell these lands. That is our safeguard so our people will not become landless," he said.Musa said the distribution of communal grant lands had helped many natives in the State and brought many of them out of poverty.

Lands on communal grants are developed in collaboration between the beneficiaries and Sabah Land Development Berhad (SLDB) with most of the lands planted with oil palm.Beneficiaries are promised dividends on regular basis as part of the agreement for the use of their lands. They can also seek employment in the oil palm plantation as their monthly income.The State Government had approved thousands of acres for distribution under communal grants.In KENINGAU earlier, Musa said the civil service should not be considered a privilege but a responsibility and each civil servant must carry out their duties with honesty and integrity or risk shaming the government they are serving.He said civil servants are mirrors of the government they serve and, thus, should take care of their conduct at all times."If one fails to uphold the responsibility entrusted to them, the whole system will also bear the consequences," he said, adding that this accountability extends to all civil servants at all levels.He was speaking at a dinner hosted by Deputy Chief Minister and Keningau MP Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.It was attended by other cabinet ministers as well as heads of departments.He continued that the government provides funds with the hope that the money will reach its targeted groups and prosper the people."This is why need to serve the people with integrity and transparency. As heads of departments, you have the responsibilities to ensure that the government's desire to help the people is fulfilled," he said.Musa's caution came following the MACC probe on two senior State government officers for suspected abuse of power and corruption involving projects worth more than RM3.3 billion.Earlier, Musa, who was on a working visit to the Interior, urged District Officers to work closely with their respective local community leaders as well as other government departments and agencies so as to serve the people in their districts better.He said it is crucial that District Officers are aware of the problem on the ground and monitor any government projects being implemented in their districts to keep abreast of what is going on in their backyard.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
