JKKKs finally get their letters
Penampang: Penampang Barisan Nasional (BN) Chief Datuk Donald Mojuntin said he was aware that majority of the chairpersons of Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) in Moyog began performing their duties immediately after being elected in March. He said their appointment letters were issued on Sept 22 and their term was effective from August 1.

"I am proud they have taken their duties seriously, sacrificing their time and own funds for four months when they did not receive any allowance, showing their selection was appropriate," he said.

Mojuntin was speaking before presenting their credentials at the District Office meeting room, here, on Monday.

He also informed that only the district held elections for JKKK and JKDB (Urban Welfare Committee) chairmen after BN Penampang, in concurrence with the District Officer, decided to allow the villagers to elect their own leaders who have credibility and confidence to carry out their tasks.

"I congratulate them and their respective villages," he said.

He advised them to prioritise their rakyat (people), development and security of their respective villages by preparing their village profile, village plan, population including gender distribution, list of community leaders, associations that exist and all economic, social and cultural activities.

"They must know the details of their own village which will greatly help in the implementation of government programmes.

"Cleanliness and beauty of the village must also be maintained by the spirit of gotong-royong or 'mogitaatabang' in Kadazan which seems to be lost lately," he said.

Focus on giving the best service to the village with less politics, to maintain the good image of the Government, he concluded.

Earlier, District Officer Luvita Koisun also reminded the JKKKs and JKDBs that they are the eyes, ears and voice of the Government.

"They must attend meetings and official functions so that their people will get the correct information and policies of the government," she said.

Also present were Community Development Leader Datuk William Sampil, ADO Henry Idol and Council Deputy Chair Alvin Lee.
