Tenom: Sabah NGO Mamagun Association (Mamagun) fully supported the opinions of several association leaders on finding a resolution to unite all Dusunic, Murutic and Paitanic ethnic groups under the "Momogun" term. Its President Rudy Sulaiman Mairi said the Dusun community had never been happy about having to put their race under "Lain-Lain" (Others) when filling up forms.

"Now, the Momogun National Congress (MNC) had been given the greenlight from more than 30 NGOs representing various ethnic groups to use the term 'Momogun' to represent the whole group," he said.

He also denied the claim that the term will lead to ethnic cleansing.

"Even if we agreed to the term, it does not mean we will lose our unique ethnic identities.

In fact, we will further strengthen our respective ethnic identities, making us more relevant.

"I have attended all MNC meetings including the most recent one held on Oct 14 and we have agreed that this term is very useful in uniting all ethnic groups under one umbrella," he said.

Other than that, Rudy said MNC also has the mission to unite, to empower and to prosper the Momogun people through its two-pronged strategies, namely to unite the Dusunic, Murutic and Paitanic people as one big group and empower the people's socio-economy through eight Momogun Economic Transformation Agenda.

The agendas are mindset change, building entrepreneurial spirit and skills, pooling of resources, promoting technical education, teaching of English, access to government assistance, review of government policies and programmes and sponsorship and mentoring of bright but poor rural Momogun students.
