Arrears of Islamic teachers finally resolved, 20 yrs on

Kota Kinabalu: The longstanding arrears in salaries and increments faced by Islamic religious teachers dating back to over 20 years in Sabah have finally been resolved.Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin bin Mohd Arif said about RM15 million has been released by the State government to settle the arrears in salaries and salary increments faced by over 200 Islamic religious teachers in the State.He said the State government has resolved about 80 per cent of the problems related to salaries, increments and teaching positions faced by the teachers in primary and secondary Islamic schools in Sabah.

"We are thankful to the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and the State Secretary for seriously looking into the problems and settling the arrears."There are over 700 Islamic teachers in Islamic schools in the State and over 200 of them faced these issues for the past two decades."However, the remaining 20 per cent involving salary arrears involving about 70 Islamic teachers is in the process of being resolved and it is expected that they will be getting the payment either next month or end of this year," he said.Arifin who is in charge of Islamic matters in Sabah said this to reporters after attending a briefing on problems faced by the Islamic religious teachers at Wisma Muis here on Wednesday.

Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) Principal Assistant Director (Financial Administration) Apsah Kadi presented the briefing that was also attend by Sabah Jheains director Yusof Abas.Arifin also presented letters confirming temporary Islamic religious teachers to permanent teaching positions and letters of promotions to 118 Islamic religious teachers under Jheains.
