Budget ensures sustainability: CM

Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman (pic) lauded the Budget 2017 as a highly committed one that looked after national economic growth and wellbeing under the current uncertain global economy. He said it was also evidence of a determined government led by Prime Minister Dato' Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak to ensure the country's economic priorities continued to grow and the people, most importantly, would not feel the pinch from the rising costs and impact of the slowdown through raising total 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) in all categories."The State Government and the people of Sabah are thankful and grateful to the Prime Minister who continues to give focus on the state's development and wellbeing of the Sabahans through the allocations in the budget.ADVERTISEMENT "Among them are the upcoming construction of a new Rural Transformation Centre (RTC), intensifying the implementation of the Pan Borneo highway, upgrading the roads along Jalan Lok Kawi-Pengalat-Papar and re-building a power station in Sandakan."Most importantly, the basic needs of the people like improving and upgrading roads, giving out assistance to dilapidated schools, supplying electricity, affordable houses and rendering government aid during dry spell and providing people-friendly projects are highlighted," he said.Musa, who is also State Finance Minister, said this in a press conference after viewing a live telecast of the National Budget presentation at his official residence Sri Gaya, Friday.Also present were several State Cabinet ministers namely Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin cum Agriculture and Food Industry Minister, Deputy Chief Minister cum Industrial Development Minister Datuk Seri Raymond Tan, Special Tasks Minister Datuk Tee Chee Kang, Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad, Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Radin Malleh, State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman and senior officials. ADVERTISEMENT Musa is optimistic the measures and initiatives taken by the government would ensure the economic fundamentals of the country remain sustainable and on the right track.Meanwhile, Masidi welcomed the Budget proposals while acknowledging the upcoming creation of a Finas production hub in Kota Kinabalu. He said it would provide an avenue for the Sabah artistes to hone and improve their talents.

She said allocations for Sabah's development in the budget also showed that Najib understand the needs of the people in the state such as providing good roads and basic amenities in rural areas and ensuring implementation of the Pan Borneo Highway as well as constructing a RTC here.Jainab was grateful that the Government allocated about RM2 billion for a new programme to help women in developing their careers and allocation of RM100 million for micro loan scheme for borrowers among women in Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) to develop and continue their small-time businesses.
