Kuala Lumpur: The Goods and Services Tax (GST) will stay at six per cent for 2017, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.Speaking when tabling the 2017 Budget at Parliament here Friday, he announced that as of Oct 19, the Government had collected a total of RM30 billion in GST.

"I would like to stress, we should not believe the grapevine of the increase in GST rates. Those are just hearsay and are untrue," he added.

The Government also proposed to enable more disabled persons including non-Private Charitable Entity (PCE) members to benefit from the relief.

It was proposed that the GST relief be given directly to valid OKU card holders for the purchase of approved equipment from suppliers designated by the Social Welfare Department.

In addition, to streamline the GST treatment in the free zones, which consist of Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) and Free Commercial Zone (FCZ), it was proposed that the GST be not chargeable on the supply and removal of goods made within and between FCZ and the GST be not due and payable on goods imported into the FIZ.

The GST shall also be not levied on the supply and removal of goods made within and between FIZ, as well as on the supply and removal of goods made within FCZ and FIZ, and vice versa.

The GST shall also be suspended on the removal of goods from a free zone to Designated Areas like Langkawi, Labuan and Tioman, and vice versa, as well as on the removal of goods from a free zone to an approved warehouse under the Warehousing Scheme, and vice versa.

In addition, to streamline the GST treatment between imported goods and goods from Principal Custom Area (PCA) and to facilitate the GST administration under the Warehousing Scheme, it was proposed that no GST shall be charged on the goods from PCA, which consist of the Licensed Manufacturing Warehouse, Excise Warehouse and FIZ that are deposited into and supplied within and between warehouses under the Warehousing Scheme.
